Last May I was in one of the most visited cities in the world for the first time. Yes, indeed, France and Paris have a special charm and magic. The city of Paris with its mighty history, great names and elegant architecture will remain in your heart forever.
But not only the city, shops, museums and restaurants impress us, don’t they? That’s right, 50% time (for some even more) of the vacation is a place where you stay over the night. To enjoy the new country and the city you always need a rest with comfort.
So where to stay in Paris?
Where to stay in Paris? CitizenM Paris La Défense
Area La Défense
La Défense is far enough from the center of the city. In truth, this isn’t Paris anymore, it’s the suburbs. If you are okay with driving 30 minutes by subway every morning. But I will give you a tip: there is a subway and RER (Réseau Express Régional) – if you drive with RER Regional Express train, it is super quick to get to the center of Paris.
And do not forget the important thing – wear your bag or backpack on the front, on your stomach. The Parisian traditional system of protection against thieves. Works good, proved.
If you love the modern look of skyscrapers, concrete and glass – welcome to the subway! At the start you can check these beautiful views of the district La Défense. Then the train goes underground.
Above all if are going to Paris to check the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, then you have to live closer to the center to save the time. This is very important on vacation.
About the Hotel Citizen M
The hotel Citizen M has 4 stars, has opened its door just in May 2017 in La Défense, west side from Paris.
The novelty is felt as soon as your foot steps into the area. Here stands the majestic monument La Grande Arche, which continues the idea of the Arc de Triomphe and Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel.
Inside is a super modern design in red shades with many futuristic interior elements. A receptionist will meet you at Check-in, but there are computers to help you check in automatically, pick up your room key card, order dinner/lunch/breakfast, and choose your floor from the list.
On each floor there is an ironing room. If you need to refresh the look of your clothes, the iron is at your disposal for free.
This space has been truly loved by me. Bright, colourful, furnished with designer flavour, numerous pillows and woollen furniture. It is convenient to work here, send e-mails, book tickets for excursions and just read a book. On the shelves you can find a lot of interesting things.
I’ve seen a couple play a board game, which means there are fun activities 🙂
Several iMac computers for your free and gentle use. However, they were lonely, never saw anyone use them. And if the weather is good, then welcome to the terrace – there are many chairs and tables here.
A space of 14 m2 holds everything you need for life. I really wanted to stay in this room! Excellent noise insulation, hypoallergenic room, air conditioning, flat screen TV, large bed.
The sink is not in the shower, but in the room itself. If you are embarrassed, you can slide the curtain between the bed and the hallway area.
And the most important thing is to manage your room with your iPad. With the help of the tablet you can practically do everything:
-Adjust the lighting;
-Check the weather;
-Open/close the curtains;
-Adjust mode and room temperature;
-Select a radio station/TV channel from hundreds of cable channels;
-Set the alarm clock.
There is a video on my YouTube channel, where you can have a good look at the room and the hotel 🙂
-Two Evian bottles a day;
-Free toiletries in the form of soap, shampoo and shower gel. By the way, with its own design and production;
-Classic Hairdryer (not the one nailed to the wall).
You can find out more about the service at booking.com.
It’s a great coffee and dinks variety in the bar. Breakfast price, if you book in advance 14.95 € per person, at the same day without pre booking 17.95€.
Breakfast buffet, about 12 tea sorts, coffee, juices, omelets, sausages, bacon, croissants, buns, several kinds of cheese and meat, honey, jams. The choice is great, so you won’t feel sorry for this money! Here you can see the breakfast menu on video.
Lunch and dinner are also good here. From the plane on the first day we were hungry and got ourselves goulash and pasta. Everything was fresh and homemade and delicious.
Why it may be not for you?
-No other hotel rooms except just with one double bed;
-No pets are allowed;
-Smoking is prohibited everywhere.
- Any problems?
Yes, it did. The TV wasn’t working. I can live without it, and my husband loves TV, and as the man who paid for it and the cable channels asked to deal with the stuff problem.
The girl reacted very quickly, within 10-15 minutes tried to fix the problem by restarting the room, completely turning off the light, then it-specialists turned on. We didn’t have to wait much longer – we were moved to another room. I was super glad, we began to live on the 9th floor instead of the 2nd and noted the beautiful view.
On the 2nd day our TV stopped working. I can live without it, but you know, men love to watch the TV in the evening, epsecially when they paid for this 🙂
The girl from the customer service reacted very quickly, within 10-15 minutes tried to fix the problem by restarting the room, completely turning off the light, then it-specialists turned on. We didn’t have to wait much longer – we were moved to another room. I was madly glad, we began to live on the 9th floor instead of the 2nd with the better view.
From 73 euros per night, the average is about 130 euros/day. All depends on season, day of week, population and where you book. The price is adequate, as far as I am concerned. There is a possibility to find for some dates a room at 800 euros/7 days for two.
But here, contrary to all Paris, they speak English, serve excellent coffee, provide silence and prepare a delicious meal. It’s a good option for couples or a lonely weekend escape to Paris. Maximum comfort in an ultra-modern environment of novelty and technology.
Did I like it? Yes, and once again, yes! I love everything new and now I know where to stay in Paris. Of course in Citizen M!
